"My name is Shen Ao, which is the Chinese term for Olympic bid. Born in 2001, I was named after the success of China bidding for the 2008 Olympic Games," said Shen.
She believes she has a mystical bond with the Olympic Games. Shen said, "I feel as if I am destined to do something for it."
During the 2008 Games, Shen's father served as a translator, and her mother worked in event security. Their volunteer effort sowed the seeds of her desire to volunteer for the Olympics. "I saw in my parents the greatness of one kind is ordinary," Shen stated. She applied to be a volunteer for Beijing 2022. She jumped when she was accepted.
Shen officially joined the media operations department of the National Snowmobile and Sled Center in the Yanqing Division of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games following several rounds of interviews, much to the delight of her family. Until now, Shen and her partners have gone through a tough process of professional training as well as an all-around online training course.
Ice Whisperers, a scientific and rigorous volunteer training program, has also been adopted by BISU to enhance volunteer training in a comprehensive way.
Shen had dreamed of being an Olympic volunteer since she was a child, and now her dream has been realized. She and 27,000 volunteers will inject Gen Z's power to the upcoming Olympic Games.
Shen expressed her excitement, "I wish to be a little burning snowflake in Beijing 2022, contributing my own efforts."
