Jan 22: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 63 new cases of confirmed infections (40 imported cases, 22 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Fujian province, 4 in Guangdong province, 3 in Sichuan province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 8 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Sichuan, 2 in Zhejiang, 2 in Fujian and 1 in Guangdong; 23 indigenous cases, 10 in Beijing including 6 in Fengtai district, 2 in Haidian district, 1 in Daxing district and 1 in Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, 6 in Jinnan district, Tianjin municipality, 4 in Anyang, Henan province and 3 in Zhuhai, Guangdong), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 175 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,418 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.

As of 24:00 on Jan 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 12,313 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 11,136 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,177 confirmed cases (without cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 21, the National Health Commission had received reports of 105,547 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 97,850 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,061 confirmed cases (including 12 cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. 1,497,939 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 53,090 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 43 new asymptomatic cases (37 imported cases; 6 indigenous cases in Fengtai district, Beijing). 22 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 8 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 21, 778 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 727 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 21, 31,106 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,918 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,514 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 18,109 in Taiwan (851 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
