A total of 3.52 million new energy vehicles were sold in 2021, up 160 percent from 2020, according to official data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

China has ranked first globally in terms of the sales of new energy vehicles for a seventh straight year in 2021, the ministry said, adding its market penetration rate came in at 13.4 percent, up 8 percentage points on a yearly basis.

China's NEV sector has entered a new stage of accelerated development, playing a leading role in electrification for the global automobile sector, the MIIT's Guo Shougang said.

Booming NEV sales followed the gradual improvement of China's support infrastructure. By the end of 2021, China had built 75,000 charging stations, 2.62 million charging piles and 1,298 battery swapping stations.

Let's take a look at the top 10 best-selling new energy passenger cars in 2021 based on data from the China Automobile Dealers Association.
