Sino-German joint venture FAW-Volkswagen delivered over 1.85 million vehicles in 2021, defending its position as the most popular carmaker in the world's largest vehicle market.
Its deliveries was around 14 percent less from 2020, but still around half a million more than the runner-up.
FAW-Volkswagen said the fall was primarily because of the globally sweeping chip shortages. It produced around 1.7 million vehicles in 2021.
Specifically, it sold 989,000 Volkswagen-branded vehicles, over 700,000 Audi vehicles and around 169,000 Jetta-branded vehicles.
FAW-Volkswagen said it would launch 8 models this year to consolidate its momentum in the market.
FAW President Qiu Xiandong said he expects the joint venture to sell over 2 million vehicles this year, considering the growth potential in China.
The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers estimates that total vehicle deliveries this year could reach 27.5 million, up 5 percent from 2021.
