On Jan 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 223 new cases of confirmed infections (60 imported cases, 35 in Shanghai municipality, 8 in Guangdong province, 5 in Sichuan province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Henan province, including 10 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 5 in Sichuan, 4 in Guangdong and 1 in Zhejiang; 163 indigenous cases, 80 in Tianjin municipality including 79 in Jinnan district and 1 in Dongli district, 68 in Henan including 60 in Anyang, 7 in Xuchang and 1 in Zhengzhou, 9 in Guangdong including 5 in Zhuhai, 2 in Shenzhen, 1 in Meizhou and 1 in Zhongshan, 5 in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, and 1 in Chongzuo, Guangxi, including 1 confirmed case converting from an asymptomatic case in Guangdong), 4 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 190 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,792 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. As of 24:00 on Jan 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 12,124 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,838 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,286 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 8 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 105,087 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 96,957 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,494 confirmed cases (including 15 cases in serious condition) and 8 suspected cases. 1,483,318 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 56,362 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 28 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 28 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 27 imported cases) and 11 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 10 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 16, 742 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 692 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 16, 30,763 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,864 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,393 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,820 in Taiwan (851 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
