The first Forum on Global Communication of Chinese Cities was held on Dec 10 in Beijing. At the forum, representatives of Guizhou's capital city Guiyang were invited to share their experience of international communication.
The forum also released a report on Chinese cities' international influence. Among 100 Chinese cities, Guiyang ranked 25th for comprehensive international influence and 24th for its reputation among foreign tourists.
In recent years, Guiyang has made use of international events such as China International Big Data Expo, Eco Forum Global, and China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, to improve its international influence.
To create a publicity brand with international influence, Guiyang has developed a city image and utilized its restaurants, hotels, transportation, tourism, shopping and entertainment.
Guiyang also relies on its Yangming culture, which is centered around and named after the famous neo-Confucian philosopher Wang Yangming, to hold Yangming culture festivals and attract domestic and international tourists.
Guiyang partnered with Propeller TV in the United Kingdom in November 2019 to launch a special TV program introducing the city. The program has been broadcast more than 60 times to an audience of 60 million in Europe's 45 countries.
Through international social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, Guiyang uses its official accounts to demonstrate the city's charm with photos and videos.
Guiyang also cooperated with a German publisher to publish a picture book telling the story of how Guiyang fought the novel coronavirus, in both English and German.
The city has given full play to its advantages in big data and established several intelligent platforms to support its international communication, and increase its publicity around the world.
