Eight national science and technology enterprise incubators in the Guangzhou Development District (GDD) were rated "excellent" in the 2020 assessment by the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In addition, Guangdong recognized six science and technology enterprise incubators, three maker spaces and one science and technology enterprise accelerator in GDD, according to a public notice of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province.
A complete incubation chain consisting of maker spaces, incubators, accelerators and science and technology industrial parks has taken shape in GDD, which boasts the largest incubator cluster in South China.
GDD has made remarkable achievements in propelling the high-quality development of incubation carriers in recent years.
As of late December 2021, GDD was home to 113 science and technology enterprise incubators, 63 maker spaces and seven science and technology enterprise accelerators. The incubators have cultivated 45 percent of local high-tech enterprises and 50 percent of local gazelle and unicorn enterprises.
In recent years, GDD has attached heavy importance to the high-quality development of incubation carriers, with dedicated policies rolled out to boost their standardization, professionalization and internationalization.
