Jan 9: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 165 new cases of confirmed infections (73 imported cases, 30 in Shanghai municipality, 9 in Fujian province, 8 in Guangdong province, 8 in Sichuan province, 7 in Zhejiang province, 3 in Henan province, 3 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Yunnan province, including 12 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 5 in Zhejiang, 3 in Henan, 2 in Sichuan, 1 in Liaoning and 1 in Guangdong; 92 indigenous cases, 56 in Henan including 39 in Xuchang, 11 in Zhengzhou, 2 in Luoyang, 2 in Anyang, 1 in Shangqiu and 1 in Huaxian county, 30 in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, 3 in Tianjin including 2 in Jinnan district and 1 in Nankai district, 2 in Ningbo, Zhejiang and 1 in Shenzhen, Guangdong, including 3 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases in Henan), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 140 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,214 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Jan 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 11,628 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,580 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,048 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 103,619 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 95,591 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,392 confirmed cases (including 26 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,450,893 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 41,016 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 46 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 17 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 15 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 12 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 8, 675 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 645 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 8, 30,151 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,770 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,243 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,302 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
