Jan 8: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 159 new cases of confirmed infections (64 imported cases, 32 in Shanghai municipality, 7 in Guangdong province, 6 in Tianjin municipality, 6 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 4 in Fujian province, 3 in Hunan province, 3 in Yunnan province, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Sichuan province, including 7 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Hunan, 1 in Fujian, 1 in Henan, 1 in Guangxi and 1 in Sichuan; 95 indigenous cases, 46 in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, 43 in Henan including 24 in Zhengzhou, 18 in Xuchang and 1 in Zhoukou, 4 in Zhejiang province including 3 in Ningbo and 1 in Jinhua, and 2 in Shenzhen, Guangdong), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 151 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 5,578 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.

As of 24:00 on Jan 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 11,555 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,551 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,004 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Jan 7, the National Health Commission had received reports of 103,454 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 95,451 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,367 confirmed cases (including 27 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,446,939 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 39,276 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 7, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 52 new asymptomatic cases (46 imported cases; 6 indigenous cases, 5 in Pudong New Area, Shanghai and 1 in Shangqiu, Henan). 16 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 15 imported cases) and 7 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (all were imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 7, 661 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 628 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 7, 30,086 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,749 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,235 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,258 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
