Jan 6: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 189 new cases of confirmed infections (57 imported cases, 20 in Shanghai municipality, 10 in Guangdong province, 7 in Zhejiang province, 6 in Fujian province, 4 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 2 in Sichuan province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Jilin province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Henan province, including 6 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Zhejiang, 2 in Sichuan and 1 in Henan; 132 indigenous cases, 64 in Henan including 50 in Xuchang, 5 in Zhengzhou, 4 in Luoyang, 3 in Zhoukou, 1 in Shangqiu and 1 in Gushi county, 63 in Xi’an, Shaanxi province and 5 in Ningbo, Zhejiang, including 30 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases in Henan), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 198 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,889 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Jan 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 11,433 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,494 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 939 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 5, the National Health Commission had received reports of 103,121 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 95,203 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,282 confirmed cases (including 30 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,441,120 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 41,619 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 45 new asymptomatic cases (35 imported cases; 10 indigenous cases, 9 in Henan including 8 in Zhengzhou and 1 in Gushi county, and 1 in Jinhua, Zhejiang). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 11 imported cases) and 36 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 6 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 5, 629 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 583 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 5, 29,942 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,708 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,230 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,155 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
