Jan 5: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 91 new cases of confirmed infections (50 imported cases, 17 in Shanghai municipality, 9 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 7 in Fujian province, 7 in Guangdong province, 5 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Hubei province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Shaanxi province, including 3 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 2 in Guangdong and 1 in Guangxi; 41 indigenous cases, 35 in Xi’an, Shaanxi, 4 in Henan province including 2 in Xuchang, 1 in Zhengzhou and 1 in Zhoukou, and 2 in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, including 2 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases in Henan), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 56 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,106 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Jan 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 11,376 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,455 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 921 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Jan 4, the National Health Commission had received reports of 102,932 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 95,005 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,291 confirmed cases (including 31 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,438,066 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 42,454 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 4, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 71 new asymptomatic cases (49 imported cases; 22 indigenous cases, 18 in Henan including 9 in Zhengzhou, 8 in Xuchang and 1 in Zhoukou, and 4 in Shanghai including 3 in Pudong New Area and 1 in Yangpu district). 22 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 21 imported cases) and 5 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 3 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 4, 632 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 565 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 4, 29,898 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,690 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,228 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,129 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
