Jan 4: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 3, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 175 new cases of confirmed infections (67 imported cases, 29 in Shanghai municipality, 13 in Guangdong province, 9 in Fujian province, 4 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 3 in Sichuan province, 3 in Yunnan province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Hunan province, including 5 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 4 in Guangdong and 1 in Hunan; 108 indigenous cases, 95 in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, 8 in Ningbo, Zhejiang and 5 in Henan including 2 in Luoyang, 2 in Xuchang and 1 in Zhengzhou, including 4 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases in Henan), 3 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 46 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,788 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 8.

As of 24:00 on Jan 3, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 11,326 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,433 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 893 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 3, the National Health Commission had received reports of 102,841 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 94,949 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,256 confirmed cases (including 30 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 1,434,795 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 42,293 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 3, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 54 new asymptomatic cases (33 imported cases; 21 indigenous cases, 19 in Henan including 17 in Xuchang, 1 in Luoyang and 1 in Zhengzhou, and 2 in Shanghai including 1 in Baoshan district and 1 in Fengxian district). 19 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 17 imported cases) and 9 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 5 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 3, 588 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 540 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 3, 29,851 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,677 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,219 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,095 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
