Jan 3: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 2, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 161 new cases of confirmed infections (60 imported cases, 26 in Shanghai municipality, 7 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, 6 in Guangdong province, 5 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 4 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Yunnan province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Shandong province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Shaanxi province, including 7 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 3 in Guangxi, 2 in Guangdong, 1 in Henan and 1 in Sichuan; 101 indigenous cases, 92 in Shaanxi including 90 in Xi’an, 1 in Xianyang and 1 in Yan’an, 9 in Ningbo, Zhejiang), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 47 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 4,027 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 6.

As of 24:00 on Jan 2, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 11,259 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 10,409 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 850 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 2, the National Health Commission had received reports of 102,666 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 94,903 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 3,127 confirmed cases (including 22 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 1,431,026 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 42,313 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 2, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 35 new asymptomatic cases (31 imported cases; 4 indigenous cases, 3 in Henan including 2 in Xuchang and 1 in Luoyang, and 1 in Yangpu district, Shanghai). 16 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 14 imported cases) and 7 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Jan 2, 562 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 529 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 2, 29,813 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,664 (after verification) in Hong Kong (213 had died and 12,214 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 79 in Macao (77 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 17,070 in Taiwan (850 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
