In winter, it’s common to see heavy snowfalls in northern parts of China, but residents living in the south of China rarely enjoy a snowball fight or make a snowman because temps there seldom drop below zero. Climbing Mount Emei in Southwest China’s Sichuan province after a snowfall would be an unforgettable experience! From Jinding ( “golden top”), a Buddhist temple built at the top of the main peak of Mount Emei at an altitude of 3,077 meters, you can have a fantastic view of the snow-capped mountain area.

Zhouzhuang town, Jiangsu province

Known as “the top water town in China” and the “Venice of the Orient”, Zhouzhuang town in East China’s Jiangsu province is a popular tourist destination. In winter, after a snowfall and with ancient residential houses covered with snow, the town looks sleepy and serene.

The Slender West Lake is a must-see scenic spot in Yangzhou, East China’s Jiangsu province. It is known for its narrow and long waterways that connect gardens and are decorated with ingeniously-designed bridges. On a clear day after a snowfall, this tourist attraction dressed in white complements the azure sky and colorful trees, forming a gorgeous landscape.

West Lake, Zhejiang province

The West Lake in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang province is a UNESCO world heritage site boasting more than 100 scenic spots with lots of temples, pagodas, pavilions, gardens, and man-made islands. A snowfall may not cause the waters to freeze, but the lake remains a gorgeous scenery.

Mount Huangshan, Anhui province

Mount Huangshan in East China’s Anhui province is one of the top 10 famous mountains in China, and a UNESCO world heritage site. It is known for its distinctive pine trees, rocks, sea of clouds, hot springs, and winter snow. The mountain has been a popular subject in art and literature throughout Chinese history.

After a snowfall, the white-topped mountain looks crystallized in bright sunshine, a sight to behold among tourists and photographers.

Huangling village, Jiangxi province

With a history of more than 500 years, Huangling village in Wuyuan county, East China’s Jiangxi province features terraces, a sea of yellow rape flowers in spring, and classic Hui-style houses. It is said to be “one of the most beautiful villages in China”.

Tianmen Mountain, Hunan province

“Tianmen” literally means “the heavenly gate”. Located in Zhangjiajie, Central China’s Hunan province, the Tianmen Mountains were named such because it resembles a gateway to the sky. As the mountain is home to ancient trees, winding vines, sprawling moss, and stalagmites, Tianmen Mountain is praised as the world’s most beautiful garden in the sky. .

Located in Lijiang, Southwest China’s Yunnan province, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Snow Mountain) is the southernmost glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. Its 13 peaks form a winding range, resembling a “jade dragon.” It has an altitude of 5,600 meters and is covered by snow all year round and dubbed the “Natural Glacier Museum.” The magnificent mountain and gorgeous scenery is a famous spot for sightseeing, mountaineering, skiing, exploration, and scientific research.

The Jinzi Mountains, Guangdong province

Located in the southernmost part of the Chinese mainland, the Jinzi Mountains welcome some snowfalls in winter and spring, which is rare in southern China. The main peak of the mountains is dubbed "the steepest peak in Guangdong". It features a 500-meter-long foot slope that is almost vertical in angle.
The snow-covered mountains dotted with rime trees exude a charm all its own.

Zhujiajiao town, Shanghai

Located in Qingpu district in Shanghai and adjacent to the Dianshan Lake scenic area, Zhujiajiao is an ancient town with a charm that is typical of China’s Jiangnan region located in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is one of the four famous historical towns in Shanghai.

After a snowfall, the well-preserved folk dwellings and stone bridges complement the serene river and form a picturesque landscape.
