Guangdong cities ally to build up industry, trade together

Foreign-trade Transformation & Upgrade bases in 21 Guangdong cities formed an alliance in Zhuhai on Dec 16 to promote the development of high-quality industry and trade. 

The cross-regional alliance is a non-profit organization comprising the bases, industry-leading companies, universities, research institutes, industrial associations, and professional service institutions.

Miu Keliang, chairman of Zhuhai Gotech Intelligent Technology, was elected as the alliance's first council president. He had been quoted in the news as saying a company can stay unbeaten only when constant efforts are put into research for new technologies and products. Gotech, which was founded in Hongqi Town of Jinwan District as a hardware manufacturer, evolved to produce "intelligent multi-media terminal, smart home, smart community, smart safeguard, intelligent and energy-efficient LED, and digital operating service platforms."

More vitality in Guangdong's foreign trade, Miu announced, will be pursued by seven committees. They specialize in garment textiles, light industry technology, biomedicine, electronic information, mechanical and electrical products, hardware building materials, and agricultural products. Adjustments adhering to industrial demands will be made in the future. 

The alliance will serve the "Dual Circulation" development pattern in which Chinese and foreign markets complement and reinforce each other with the domestic market as the mainstay. The membership also will advance Zhuhai's foreign trade cooperation in scale, space, and level, according to Wang Wei, deputy director of the Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of Commerce.

Ren Shao of the Guangdong Department of Commerce suggested that the alliance also would improve the concentration of local industries, increase brand effectiveness, and give local products more global competitiveness.

Zhuhai has six foreign-trade Transformation & Upgrade bases including national ones each in Xiangzhou, Jinwan, and the Zhuhai National Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan). These span household appliances, biomedicine, and integrated circuits. They have registered trademarks in 20 countries and regions. 

Guangdong has led the country in total import-export value for years. Its foreign-trade Transformation & Upgrade bases gained support in Guangdong's action plan for high-quality trade development, which was released in May this year. 

The inaugural meeting was handled by the Zhuhai Foreign Economic Cooperation Enterprise Association and guided by the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province. Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of Commerce provided support.
