Ma Xiaowei, minister of the National Health Commission (NHC), led a delegation to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) from Dec 14 to 17 upon the invitation of the government of the SAR, to promote health cooperation between the mainland and Macao.
During his stay in Macao, Ma respectively met with Ho Iat-seng, chief executive of the Macao SAR, and Ao Ieong U, secretary for social affairs and culture of Macao.
Ma said that under the leadership of Ho, the SAR government has made remarkable progress in the fight against COVID-19, contributing to the stability of the country's overall pandemic prevention and control.
The NHC will continue to provide assistance to Macao in building an offshore medical complex and opening a nursing college, and will also support Macao in further integrating into the overall national health development as well as enriching successful practices of "one country, two systems" with Macao characteristics, so as to bring more benefits to the people of the mainland and the SAR.
During his visit, Ma also met with Fu Ziying, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, and had exchanges with representatives including Liao Zeyun, chairman of the Charity Association of Kiang Wu Hospital in Macao. He visited the construction site of the offshore medical complex as well.
Witnessed by Ho, Ma and Ao signed a memorandum of cooperation for the offshore medical complex project.
