Qinghai province is located in the interior of Northwest China, with an average elevation of over 3,000 meters.The Great Wall in Qinghai province was a military defense project with the historical Xining Garrison (known as "Xining Wei") Great Wall dating to the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) as its main body. The remaining segment spans 12 counties, with a total length of 363 kilometers. It is also at the highest elevation among the remaining Ming Dynasty Great Wall sections of China.
The Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty in Qinghai is mainly composed of rammed earth walls and trenches, including 10 enemy towers, 116 beacon towers, four passes, 46 castles, and five other related relics.Among them, a section of the Great Wall in Datong county of Xining is the best preserved section. It is 13 kilometers long with dense guard towers, passes, barracks, beacon towers and other defense structures around it. The altitude is between 2,400 and 4,000 meters.
