'Evening courts' proving more convenient for working litigants

More than 2,000 civil cases have been resolved by "evening courts" in Beijing, as some people have had difficulties attending trials during working hours, the capital's High People's Court said on Thursday.

The evening courts — established by the high court last year as part of efforts to fulfill the central government's "people-centered approach" objectives — have played a big role in helping daytime workers solve legal problems in their spare time and has also made ending disputes during the ongoing pandemic more efficient.

According to the high court, the evening courts are only responsible for dealing with simple civil matters, such as disputes between family members and neighbors as well as those involving apartment leasing.

Judge Li Xuhui from the court said these courts help meet residents' legal demands and provide them with more convenience in litigation.

Additionally, the high court has taken some other measures this year to make filing lawsuits easier and to help enhance people's legal awareness.

In September, for example, the high court issued a guideline with the Municipal Justice Bureau to assist litigants who are unsure how to verify the severity of their injuries or the authenticity of documents during litigation.

The guideline focuses on forensic and documentary identification, providing clear answers on what materials litigants should prepare for cases.
