Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), held virtual talks with Laureano Ortega, the representative of the Nicaraguan government and adviser to the Nicaraguan president, exchanging views on China-Nicaragua development cooperation after the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Luo warmly congratulated the two countries on the resumption of diplomatic relations and said Nicaragua's recognition of and commitment to the one-China principle is on the right side of history and is a wise move that is in line with the trend of the times and history. The resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Nicaragua has opened up broad prospects for cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
Luo described the significant achievements made by China in practicing the idea of a community with a shared future for mankind, carrying out international cooperation in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and promoting global sustainable development. He said China and Nicaragua are both developing countries and in urgent need of economic development and improving people's livelihoods.
China is willing to provide support and assistance to the best of its ability according to the development needs of Nicaragua, and explore practical cooperation between the two sides in the fields of anti-pandemic measures, post-pandemic economic recovery, poverty alleviation and human resource development, Luo said, adding that the CIDCA is willing to establish a communication mechanism with Nicaragua and work closely to achieve mutual benefit for both peoples.
Ortega, who was in Tianjin municipality of China, said he is optimistic about the prospects of China-Nicaragua relations and spoke highly of China's achievements in poverty reduction and its important role in promoting South-South cooperation.
He said Nicaragua is currently facing the challenge of developing its economy and escaping from poverty, and that China's development experience is highly compatible with his country's development needs.
The government and people of Nicaragua are looking forward to cooperating with China to achieve mutual benefit, Ortega said, adding that Nicaragua is willing to establish relevant mechanisms with China to share experience in governance, communicate development strategies, promote practical cooperation, and work together to take bilateral relations to a higher level.
