Zhai Hongling, deputy mayor of the people's government of Hechi city and secretary of the CPC Yizhou district committee, said at the first China Silk Industry High-quality Development Conference and Hechi Silk Industry Investment Summit held on Nov 10 that Yizhou district in Hechi will remain devoted to promoting the integrated development of mulberry planting, sericulture and silk making industries with the goal of becoming the "New Silk Capital of China."
Hechi's mulberry silkworm industry has achieved rapid development in recent years. The existing mulberry orchard area is 380,000 mu (25,333 hectares), accounting for 13.09 percent of the total mulberry orchard area in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The annual output of fresh cocoons has reached 67,100 metric tons, and Hechi's Yizhou district has ranked first among counties and districts in Guangxi in terms of area of mulberry orchards and silkworm cocoon output for 17 consecutive years.
The city will introduce strong and excellent enterprises to implement large-scale mulberry planting as well as utilize standardization and mechanization production techniques.
It will promote the international development of the silk industry by building exhibition, exchange and business centers as well as related educational institutions.
Hechi will put forward preferential policies and optimize the business environment in order to attract talents and enterprises to settle in Hechi, Zhai added.
In addition, Hechi has developed sericulture cultural tourism products, and has deepened the industrial chain. Its sericulture industry is currently showing a strong development trend.
