Bordering Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park covers an area of 14,100 square kilometers. It is the major habitat of the country’s Siberian tigers and Amur leopards and is a model for cross-border wildlife conservation.

As the most important wildlife and plant distribution area with one of the richest biodiversities in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere, the park is an important settlement and breeding area for Siberian tigers and Amur leopards and the home of their largest populations.

The establishment of the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park will effectively protect Siberian tigers and Amur leopards, helping them to continue to reproduce and realizing harmonious coexistence between mankind and nature.

Located in the central zone of the mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest ecosystems in the temperate zone of Asia, the park boasts magnificent and gorgeous scenery in different seasons.

In addition, the park is home to well-preserved and abundant plant species native to temperate forests, including thousands of medical plants, edible wild herbs, spice trees, honey plants, wild fruit trees and shrubs, and timbers. Some of them are rare and endangered plant species that are under state protection. It is also surprising to see rutaceae and magnoliaceae of subtropical and tropical origin and distribution at such high latitudes.

With a rich temperate forest ecosystem breeding and protecting entire populations of wildlife, the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park preserves the most complete and typical wildlife population in the northeastern temperate forest. At present, a community of carnivores and a community of herbivores make up a complete food chain in the national park, which is extremely rare to see in China.

The immense forests in the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park have become a paradise for breeding and survival of birds. Every spring, various forest birds start returning from the south to prepare to lay eggs. The fertile soil of the park also provides a favorable living environment for reptiles.

Bordering the Sea of Japan (called the East Sea by South Korea) and affected by the ocean climate, the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park has a humid environment with rich water systems. It encompasses not only the head of the Suifen River, a famous transnational river, but sections of the Hunchun River and other important tributaries of the Tumen River. Abundant water provides a good living environment for amphibians and nurtures rich fish resources.
