Jilin province in Northeast China plans to fully tap into the potential of its ice and snow resources by building an ice and snow-based economy, which has been included among the province's development goals.
Jilin is blessed with unique ice and snow resources. The province has sought to highlight the development of its ice and snow economy, as well as the entire related industrial chain including ice and snow tourism, sports, culture, and equipment.
In October, Jilin province issued 10 million yuan ($1.57 million) in consumption subsidies for its ice and snow pre-sales activity in the run-up to China's online shopping festival known as Double 11.
As of Nov 11, total online pre-sales had exceeded 550 million yuan, ranking first in the national ice and snow market.
According to the province's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), one to two national-level ice and snow-themed tourist resorts and 10 ski resorts will be built.
Jilin will strive to attract 120 million visitors during the winter, and achieve a total industrial scale of 250 billion yuan.
The province hopes to develop a strong ice and snow economy and become world-class ice and snow tourist destination within the next five to 10 years.
Jilin city in the province has become the official cooperative supply guarantee base for the Beijing 2022 Winter Games.
