Northeast China's Jilin province has confirmed that it will invest 410 million yuan ($64.21 million) to implement China FAW Group's major scientific and technological projects, according to local media reports.
Based on FAW's 14th Five-Year (2021-25) technology development plan and the development needs of the automobile industry in Jilin province, 29 areas of focus in five major technical fields – vehicle control, new energy, intelligent network connection, powertrain and chassis control – have been approved by the Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Department, and Changchun science and technology bureau.
An open competition mechanism to select the best candidates will be adopted. Domestic innovative entities and teams with strong research and development capabilities and a foundation for supporting project cooperation can apply for the project category of their choosing.
The Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Department and Changchun science and technology bureau will work with FAW Group to organize for experts to review and demonstrate the qualifications and the feasibility of the projects' research, and determine the innovation entities or teams to undertake the projects.
The project execution period is two to three years, and the relevant departments will supervise the project management and acceptance.
