China's 10 major breakthroughs in agricultural science last year show its leading role in the world in the study of crops, horticulture and veterinary science, according to the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The breakthroughs mainly include research in genomics, analysis of important functional genes, plant diseases and pests, animal embryogenesis, coronavirus infection among animals, and crop cultivation, it said.
Wu Kongming, president of the academy, delivered the report at a forum on agricultural technology development held in Beijing on Friday. The scientific breakthroughs promote a leap in China's agricultural technology to achieve "independent gene, technology, variety, and product."
Along with the 10 breakthroughs made last year, seven other reports about agricultural science and technology have been released during the forum.
The reports include developments in research frontiers, global competitiveness of papers and patents, as well as technical models for emission reduction and carbon sequestration in rural areas over the last five years. Innovations of agriculture-related enterprises are also summarized in the report.
