Beijing Benz Automotive Co Ltd (BBAC) was founded on August 8th, 2005. The BBAC is a Sino-German joint venture, with investment from BAIC Motor, Daimler AG and Daimler Greater China Ltd. (DGRC), which integrates R&D, engine and complete vehicle production, sales, and after-sales services.
The BBAC is a comprehensive production facility within the global production network of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, and has a high output and large production area. With the Daimler Group’s first engine, battery and pilot plants outside of Germany, the BBAC is Daimler’s only joint venture worldwide to produce front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and electric models under one roof.
In October 2021, the new Daimler China R&D Technology Center in Beijing's Economic-Technological Development Area was officially opened. The new Daimler China R&D Technology Center has a total investment of 1.1 billion yuan ($172.84 million), and a total construction area of 55,000 square meters. It will focus on important industry technology trends and the acceleration of Mercedes-Benz, including the localized production of pure electric models. For the first time in China, Daimler has brought together R&D forces across various fields, including research, engineering development, simulation and road testing.
