A landscape corridor that has been added to a downtown venue of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be put into operation next month, according to Haidian district authorities.
Covering an area of 17 hectares, the corridor aims to increase the area’s green space and beautify the area for residents in Haidian, Beijing, as well provide a space for outdoor exercise.
"We designed the area of Yongding Road as a whole, building parks, setting up fitness facilities, and constructing sports sculptures, to make the area convenient for citizens," said Shi Chao, deputy director of the Yongding Road sub-district office in Haidian district.
Yang Shuai, a street planner in Haidian, said they integrated the concept of a “sponge city” into the design of the park.
"A variety of native species such as Chinese pines and locusts were planted in the park, and some ornamental plants that survived the winter have also been cultivated to form a plant landscape," said Yang, adding that circular running tracks, basketball courts, and other facilities were also built.
