The driverless vehicle startup WeRide.ai (formerly know as Jingchi Technology), established in April 2017, is a high-tech company controlled by Chinese citizens and Chinese capital. Its staff includes the world's top scientists, engineers and artificial intelligence management teams. On May 12, it completed its first driverless test on a blocked road. On June 18, it obtained the road testing license issued by the California DMV. On June 24, it completed the first driverless test on an open road. On September 8, it achieved a test of commuting during peak traffic in Silicon Valley. So far in Silicon Valley, thousands of investors, industry and academic partners, government agency staff and job seekers have ridden the driverless cars.
On December 28, 2017, WeRide.ai announced that it would relocate its global headquarters from Silicon Valley to the Guangzhou Huangpu District Development District. After more than one month of data collection, high-precision map collection and internal testing, WeRide.ai is ready to launch normalized trial operations for the public in first-tier cities. On January 30, 2018, WeRide.ai held a launching ceremony of normalized test operations of driverless cars at Guangzhou Bio Island. The company has announced that the public can now make an appointment to ride the L4 high-level intelligent driverless car.
