Boasting a history of more than 2,100 years, the Shandan Military Horse Farm is located in the Damaying Grasslands in the middle of the Hexi Corridor. It was initiated by Huo Qubing (140-117 BC), an outstanding and ever-victorious militarist of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), and covers an area of over 123,000 hectares. It is the largest horse farm in Asia and is home to the high quality “Shan Dan Horses” that can work as both draft animals and mounts and are known for their speed and endurance.

The Shandan Military Horse Farm enjoys a plain terrain and rich water resources, providing an ideal environment for its purposes. Boasting picturesque scenery, it features wonderful tourist programs including horse riding, archery, camping and equestrian performances and has also developed into a renowned film and television base.
