“Bashang” is a geological term in Chinese that describes meadow steppes formed by elevated grasslands in a mild climate with lush vegetation. Colloquially, it refers to the southern fringe of the Inner Mongolian Plateau. Also known as the “Top Grassland” to the north of Beijing, the Fengning Bashang Grasslands are located in the Fengning Manchu autonomous county in Hebei province, and encompass an area of 350 square kilometers. The continental monsoon plateau climate bestows the grasslands with cool and refreshing summers, making them a famous summer resort.

Enjoying rich natural resources, the Fengning Bashang Grasslands sustain lush plant life and a fine ecosystem. Datlilites, species of limonium, and troll flowers bloom in turn and bring vitality to the grasslands between May and August each year. Larks and wild geese can be seen flying through the air, while rabbits, moles, foxes and leopards scamper through the grass below.
