Yantai athletes shine at 14th National Games

Yantai athletes won a total of 21 gold medals at the 14th National Games, which concluded on Sept 27.

The National Games is billed as the country's "mini Olympics". The 14th National Games featured a total of 54 sports and 595 events. Over 12,000 elite athletes and 10,000 amateur participants took part in the sporting extravaganza.

Wei Meng won the gold medal in the women's skeet completion on Sept 3, the first gold medal for Shandong province. Liu Tian and his teammate won gold in the men's 49er-class sailing race at the 14th National Games on Sept 10.

Yantai athletes also won gold medals in sports spanning air rifle, judo mixed team, the men's swimming 400m freestyle, javelin throwing, and the men's 50km race walk.
