Among the numerous ancient bronzes across the globe, the mysterious bronze wares unearthed from the Sanxingdui Ruins site in Southwest China’s Sichuan province represent early human civilization and are of high research value.
Since the first excavation work carried out at the site in 1986, an incredible and immense world of bronzes has been presented to the public, with the discovery of various cultural relicssuch as solemn bronze figurines, human face masks, towering bronze trees, flying birds, leaping dragons and reptiles, and a crowing rooster.
For a long time, due to the scarcity of written records, the history of the State of Chu has been shrouded in mysteries hard to solve.But with continuous excavation and research, the exaggerated and bold aesthetic taste of the ancestors from the State of Shu, the fabled myths and legends about them, as well as their legendary destiny of turning from prosperity to decline, will hopefully be unveiled in the foreseeable future.
With a man-face and bird-body bronze statue as its centerpiece, the Bronze Gallery of the Sanxingdui Museum established on site comprehensively and systematically shows the bronze statues unearthed at the Sanxingdui Ruins site and a number of important bronze artifacts from the State of Chu.
