Sept 18: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Sept 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 46 new cases of confirmed infections (15 imported cases, 9 in Yunnan province, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Liaoning province, including 2 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases in Guangdong; 31 indigenous cases in Fujian province, 21 in Putian, 8 in Xiamen and 2 in Zhangzhou, including 6 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 49 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 748 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 3.

As of 24:00 on Sept 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,769 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 8,210 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 559 confirmed cases (including 5 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Sept 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 95,623 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 90,074 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 913 confirmed cases (including 8 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,179,064 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 16,240 were still under medical observation.

On Sept 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 17 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 18 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 16 imported cases) and 8 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 2 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Sept 17, 369 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 358 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Sept 17, 28,338 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,152 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 11,867 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 16,123 in Taiwan (839 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
