Sept 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Sept 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 84 new cases of confirmed infections (22 imported cases, 16 in Yunnan province, 2 in Henan province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Zhejiang province, including 2 confirmed cases converting from asymptomatic cases, 1 in Zhejiang and 1 in Henan; 62 indigenous cases, 61 in Fujian province - 31 in Xiamen, 28 in Putian, 1 in Quanzhou and 1 in Zhangzhou, including 1 confirmed case converting from an asymptomatic case - and 1 in Yunnan’s Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 45 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 661 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Sept 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,754 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 8,167 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 587 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Sept 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 95,577 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 90,025 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 916 confirmed cases (including 5 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,177,935 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 15,875 were still under medical observation.

On Sept 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 20 new asymptomatic cases (14 imported cases; 6 indigenous cases in Putian, Fujian). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 11 imported cases) and 3 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 2 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Sept 16, 378 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 359 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Sept 16, 28,327 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,149 in Hong Kong (213 had died and 11,862 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 16,115 in Taiwan (839 had died and 13,742 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
