To better protect people, Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – will add push-button pedestrian signals at 42 locations, and reports are that by Aug 31 Yunyan, Nanming and Baiyun districts had started rolling them out and the work will be done before Oct 1.

Other renovation projects will also be carried out in areas with heavy traffic in Guiyang's eight districts.

The pedestrian lights will be set on the both sides of pedestrian crossings. Pedestrians can push the buttons to control the traffic lights when they need to cross the roads, while reducing the influence on traffic flows.

Guiyang will also set up traffic islands to provide waiting areas for the pedestrians, ensuring safety at crossroads.
