Zhuliu village in Yantai, Shandong province has been turning heads with its cartoon-themed painted walls.
More than 8,000 square meters of walls in the village have been painted with themed classic animations such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and cartoon images, creating a unique landscape in the village.
The paintings are part of the village's efforts to promote its rural tourism, according to local officials. The painting work started this June and took nearly two months to complete. Today, more than 200 visitors come to take pictures every day.
Jiang Jiaren, one of the painters, said the painting walls highlight the development of the animation industry from the 1970s to the 2000s with different themes. The paintings will allow people to revisit their childhood memories.
