Huangpu automobile industry accelerates transformation, upgrading

The automobile industry in Guangzhou's Huangpu district is accelerating in its transformation and upgrading by strengthening core technology innovation and pursuing green low-carbon development.

Local high-tech enterprise WeRide released China's first L4-level self-driving freight vehicle on Sept 9, and will work together with Jiangling Motors and ZTO Express to push forward its mass production and commercialization.

Meanwhile, Chinese internet giant Baidu's autonomous driving unit Apollo launched China's largest autonomous driving MaaS (Mobility as a Service) platform in Huangpu in March, which will drive the development of autonomous driving and intelligent connected vehicle industries in South China.

The Xpeng Motors' innovation base for smart manufacturing began construction in China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City in May 2020, and will have large labs for autonomous driving and intelligent connection technologies.

A cooperation agreement was signed between the district and Hyundai on Jan 15 to promote the green and low-carbon development of the automobile industry. Construction of Hyundai's first overseas hydrogen fuel cell production and sales base began construction on March 2 with an investment of 8.5 billion yuan ($1.3 billion).

Local auto maker GAC Honda established the first environment lab in the automobile industry for constant monitoring of volatile organic chemical emissions during the production process and treatment research in January.
