As one of China's most prominent museums known for its historical art collections, the Shanghai Museum ascribes its eclectic holdings to the generosity of its donors. An exhibition is to be held late this month to show its respect and gratitude to early donors who helped pave the way for the founding of the museum around 1952.
Donations (over 88,000 items) account for 8.6 percent of the Shanghai Museum's collections, while those designated as “precious” account for 23.6 percent of the category.
