Zhenwu Temple
真武庙
The Taoist temple dedicated to the worship of the Taoist deity, the Great Emperor Zhenwu, used to be a significant landmark of the ancient port of Fashi. It was the venue chosen by Quanzhou officials to offer sacrifices to the sea.
The sea deity beliefs embodied by the temple werean important source of spiritual support for merchants who engaged in maritime trade during the Song-Yuan period. The temple reflects the government's encouragement and support for maritime trade.
