Demoiselle cranes are one of the three bird species in the world that can fly over Mount Qomolangma. Between mid-August and late September, they arrive at the grasslands in northern Baotou city, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, for a half-month rest and recuperation before their southward migration to India, where they spend the winter.
This year there are more than 5,000 demoiselle cranes arriving in Baotou, a third of which are eyases or nestlings hatched this year. [Video/Guo Liming]
