This year, besides live performances, 10 mini summer camps were held to teach children about Western classical music, traditional Chinese operas and traditional Chinese musical instruments.
For the first time, the summer camps featured Kunqu Opera, one of the oldest traditional Chinese operas with a history of over 600 years; the guqin, a zither-like seven-stringed traditional Chinese instrument; and the xun, a globular, flutelike traditional Chinese instrument. All were warmly received by audiences.
