Sept 1: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 31, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 19 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 6 in Guangdong province, 4 in Yunnan province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 95 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,514 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.

As of 24:00 on Aug 31, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,340 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,717 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 623 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 31, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,898 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 89,240 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,022 confirmed cases (including 3 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 1,163,705 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 20,123 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 31, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 13 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 19 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 15 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Aug 31, 436 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 380 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 31, 28,170 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,112 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,791 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (60 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,995 in Taiwan (835 had died and 13,676 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
