Wuxi's Xishan district to develop new ecological science and technology city

A conceptual plan for the Wuxi Wanshan Lake Ecological Science and Technology City was released on Aug 28.

According to the plan, the Wuxi Wanshan Lake Ecological Science and Technology City is located in Wuxi's Xishan district.

As the name suggests, ecology and technology are the two major themes of the new city's future development. Its 14-square-kilometer core area will connect characteristic functions and public activity nodes through water loop paths, aiming to showcase a waterfront space under the integration of a Jiangnan-style water town and cultural life scenes.

The plan also proposed building a "3+X" industrial framework led by three emerging industries including new generation information technology, life and health, and green energy in the eastern part of the Xishan Economic and Technological Development Zone.

The new city will feature five full-chain innovation clusters around basic scientific research, an innovation center, and high-end manufacturing and technology services, and will support the development of innovation clusters, said an official from the Xishan Economic and Technological Development Zone.

In the future, the new city will connect to Xidong New City, or Wuxi East New City, to develop a new-kind of area with core functions such as business services, technological innovation, high-end manufacturing, life services, tourism, and leisure, which will also serve surrounding regions in the Yangtze River Delta, according to the plan.

A director of Wuxi's Xishan district noted that as the east gate of Wuxi, Xishan is expected to connect with more high-quality resources from Shanghai for innovative development through the new city.
