Aug 29: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 33 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 17 in Yunnan province, 5 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Guangdong province, 2 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Fujian province and 1 in Sichuan province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 119 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,962 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,261 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,620 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 641 confirmed cases (including 8 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,819 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 88,924 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,259 confirmed cases (including 9 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,161,449 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 24,381 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 28, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 20 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 23 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 22 imported cases) and 4 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 446 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 374 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 28, 28,123 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,100 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,782 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (60 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,960 in Taiwan (833 had died and 13,674 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
