Aug 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 35 new cases of confirmed infections (34 imported cases, 9 in Shanghai municipality, 8 in Guangdong province, 7 in Zhejiang province, 4 in Yunnan province, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Tianjin municipality and 1 in Shaanxi province; 1 indigenous case in Henan province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 96 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,426 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 4.

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,139 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,417 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 722 confirmed cases (including 8 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,687 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 88,417 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,634 confirmed cases (including 19 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 1,159,314 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 35,246 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 9 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 20 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 19 imported cases) and 5 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 491 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 405 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 23, 28,057 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,062 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,766 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (59 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,932 in Taiwan (828 had died and 13,601 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
