Rock paintings reflect life in the distant past

Discovered in Alshaa Right Banner, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the ancient Mandela Mountain Rock Paintings paint a vivid description of the culture and life of northern nomadic groups living in the area thousands of years ago, including the Yuezhi, Xiongnu, Xianbei, Tangut and Mongolian people.

An ancient gallery of China's northwest region, the 6,000-plus paintings cover an area of nearly 18 square kilometers.
