Aug 23: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 21 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 5 in Guangdong province, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Tianjin municipality, 3 in Yunnan province, 2 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Sichuan province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 74 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 2,171 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 7.

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,105 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,371 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 734 confirmed cases (including 10 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,652 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 88,321 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,695 confirmed cases (including 23 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,158,348 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 36,707 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 22, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 16 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 14 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 3 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 507 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 420 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 22, 28,046 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,057 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,766 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (59 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,926 in Taiwan (828 had died and 13,580 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
