Discovered in a Tang Dynasty (618-907) hoard from Hejia village in Xi’an city, Shaanxi province, the silver scent diffuser, with an openwork design of grapes and flying birds, is one of the most precious treasures of the Shaanxi History Museum.

Looking inside the spherical scent diffuser, you will find an ingeniously designed mechanism - a golden bowl for aromatic materials fixed to a pair of concentric rings. It never overturns, no matter how the sphere is placed.
