Aug 22: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 32 new cases of confirmed infections (28 imported cases, 9 in Shanghai municipality, 7 in Yunnan province, 6 in Guangdong province, 2 in Hubei province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Sichuan province; 4 indigenous cases, 3 in Shanghai and 1 in Jiangsu province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 70 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,706 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 3.

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,084 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,338 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 746 confirmed cases (including 11 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,631 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 88,247 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,748 confirmed cases (including 30 cases in serious condition) and no suspected cases. 1,157,386 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 37,918 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 19 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 19 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 12 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 508 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 421 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 21, 28,031 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,052 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,762 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (59 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,916 in Taiwan (828 had died and 13,581 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
