Aug 20: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 19, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 33 new cases of confirmed infections (29 imported cases, 9 in Guangdong province, 6 in Yunnan province, 2 in Beijing municipality, 2 in Liaoning province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Henan province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Heilongjiang province, 1 in Jiangsu province and 1 in Sichuan province; 4 indigenous cases, 2 in Jiangsu and 2 in Yunnan), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 82 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,781 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 7.

As of 24:00 on Aug 19, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 8,040 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 7,296 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 744 confirmed cases (including 12 cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 19, the National Health Commission had received reports of 94,579 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 88,126 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,817 confirmed cases (including 54 cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. 1,155,346 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 40,859 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 19, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 30 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 19 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 18 imported cases) and 2 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 19, 517 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 418 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 19, 28,007 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 12,047 in Hong Kong (212 had died and 11,759 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 63 in Macao (59 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 15,897 in Taiwan (826 had died and 13,545 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
