Located in Guiyang city, Southeast China’s Guizhou province, the Geological Museum of Guizhou opened to the public in August 2021. It houses more than 100,000 items in its collections, including paleontological fossils, minerals and crystals, and ore specimens.
The Geological Museum of Guizhou offers four permanent exhibitions. Progressive Guizhou reviews the province's remarkable achievements in utilizing and preserving its geological and mineral resources, showcasing the efforts that have been made at geographical work and land management. In particular, the exhibition focuses on the outstanding contributions made by people who work in the field of natural resources and their relentless spirit.
Reputed as “the kingdom of sedimentary rocks”, Guizhou province is rich in mineral resources. The Fertile Guizhou exhibition uses an array of ores and mineral specimens with the help of multi-media technologies to popularize knowledge of the formation of mineral resources in the province.
Focusing on karst features, Colorful Guizhou illustrates the causes of karst landforms. With restored scenarios and the use of multi-media technologies, it showcases the classical geological landscapes in Guizhou to present viewers with the uncanny workmanship of nature.
Themed on paleontological fossils, Mysterious Guizhou displays plenty of paleontological fossil specimens to present the evolution of palaeobios from about 500 millions to two million years ago as well as the living environment of prehistoric creatures and the extinction and recovery of life.
